Method to repair the Mcafee Update damage
Today,Gadget News about 11-step method to repair the Mcafee damage.FromĀ mcafee reports that Rebooting on many machines. A message when booting that states there was an Unexpected Error and had to Close. The Start Menu and Taskbar will not show. Copy and Paste does not work. Internet Explorer opens briefly then closes immediately. Computers using DHCP will not get an address. Manually starting services results in Error 193: 0xc1. All network access is disabled.Use an unaffected PC to do the following:
1. get a copy of SCVHOST.EXE off of your original CD, or even from an unaffected system.
2. Download the McAfee DAT 5959 from: http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security_updates/dat.asp?region=us&segment=enterprise
3. Copy these to either a CD or USB drive.
4. Insert the media you just created into the affected machine.
5. Boot the computer logged in as an administrator or in Safe Mode as an administrator.
6. You Start Menu and task bar are minimized, to make it show you can right click the line at the bottom of your screen where it is usually at and then select Toolbars, Quick Launch. This usually makes it pop back up.
7. Go to the Start then Run and type CMD. Press enter.
8. Navigate to the drive you have the files on. For example if they are on the CD-ROM you would normally use D: then press enter.
9. Type the following without quotes to replace SVCHOST.EXE “copy svchost.exe c:\windows\system32\” and press enter. If asked to overwrite the existing file answer yes.
10. Type the following without quotes “5959xdat.exe” and press enter. This will run the new DAT. Just accept the defaults for installing.
11. Reboot and your computer will work like before (some machines may not reboot, but Shutdown will work).
12. Send hate-mail to McAfee for ruining your day.
