E-reader that has a full-color screen would be more interesting. With a color screen, an e-reader would be more functional to display the contents of magazines or newspapers, and even a digital comic, rich photos, graphics, and pictorial illustrations. When asked when the Amazon Kindle which will release a color screen, Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos Amazon.com Inc. could not answer. Bezos is only revealed, Kindle has a color screen that will not be available in the market in the near future. “Kindle the new colors available to sail for many more years. I do not know when. But the many years from now. I’ve seen colored EDP in the laboratory. However, I guarantee color EDP currently not ready for the market,” says Bezos, such as AFP reported. Speech Bezos may have a point. However, the implementation of EDP color into e-reader now looks more constrained than the price factor of technical factors.
Currently, the price of color EDP is still extremely expensive because the technology was still new and its production capacity was still very small. The first producer capable of producing color EDP is LG Philips LCD Co., Ltd.. LG Philips first introduced the EDP color in early 2007. EDP has a width equal to A4 paper, with a width of 14.1 inches diagonal, and a thickness of only 0.3 mm. LG Philips reveals, EDP is capable of displaying up to 4096 kinds of colors. LG Philips said also, EDP is very energy efficient because only consume energy when there is a change on the screen. EDP is also flexible as regular paper. “This is an electronic paper display technology of the future. LG Philips is the world’s first company to develop e-paper screen flexible color A4-size,” said Chief Technology Officer & Executive Vice President of LG Philips LCD Co Ltd. In-Jae Chung. LG Philips is developing EDP by gluing colored Thin-Film Transistors (TFT) on metal, not glass. Therefore, the EDP is to be flexible. Production of electronic ink using E Ink, color EDP claimed LG Philips is capable of displaying images with equal quality printed pages. LG Philips adds, drawing on the EDP show that color can still be seen clearly even viewed from the perspective 180 degrees.
